Foodgrain quality control built for scale and accountability

Quality control is not a single inspection it is a chain of checks that starts the moment grain arrives at a procurement centre and continues until it reaches the final buyer. The National Commodity Supply Corporation of India runs a standardized, documented quality assurance process across wheat, rice, pulses and oilseeds, so that grading is consistent, farmers receive fair value for genuine quality, and consumers receive commodities that meet national food safety norms.

Our quality framework combines on-site testing at the point of procurement with laboratory verification, graded storage, and pre-dispatch checks supported by a traceable record for every lot handled through our network.

How It Works

Our six-step quality assurance process

Each consignment moves through the same standardized checkpoints, regardless of origin or destination.

Sample Collection01

Sample Collection

Representative samples are drawn from every incoming lot at the mandi or collection centre using standardized probes, so no single sample can misrepresent an entire consignment.

Laboratory Testing02

Laboratory Testing

Samples are tested in NABL-recognized labs for moisture content, foreign matter, broken grains, weevilled grains, and contamination before a lot is accepted for procurement.

Grading & Sorting03

Grading & Sorting

Commodities are graded against FAQ (Fair Average Quality) and AGMARK norms, with mechanical sorting used to separate grain by size, moisture and admixture levels.

Certified Storage04

Certified Storage

Approved lots move into fumigated, moisture-controlled warehouses with periodic re-testing to catch spoilage, pest resurgence, or quality drift during storage.

Dispatch Verification05

Dispatch Verification

A final quality check and weighment is carried out before any lot leaves the warehouse, with a quality certificate accompanying every dispatch.

Traceability & Records06

Traceability & Records

Every batch is logged against its procurement centre, test results and storage history, giving full traceability from farm gate to final delivery.

What We Test For

Quality parameters checked in every lot

Testing thresholds follow AGMARK and FSSAI norms and vary by commodity, procurement season, and destination use (open market, PDS, or buffer stock).

Moisture Content

Tested against commodity-specific safe limits to prevent fungal growth and spoilage during storage.

Foreign Matter

Stones, dust, husk and other admixture are measured and kept within permissible AGMARK thresholds.

Broken & Damaged Grains

Broken, shrivelled and weather-damaged grains are quantified as they directly affect grade and price.

Pest & Weevil Infestation

Lots are screened for live infestation; affected consignments are fumigated or rejected as per protocol.

Aflatoxin & Contaminant Levels

Mycotoxin screening is carried out on oilseeds and pulses to meet FSSAI safety limits.

Protein & Nutrient Content

Protein and nutrient benchmarks are checked for pulses and wheat lots intended for PDS and bulk supply.

Standards We Follow

Compliance you can rely on

Our testing and grading protocols are aligned with national food-safety and quality frameworks, so every certificate issued reflects a consistent, auditable standard.
